Question 1

Is my code uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Syntax highlighting runs with Shiki entirely in your browser, and the screenshot is rendered by capturing the styled window directly on your device — nothing you paste is ever sent to a server.

Question 2

How does 'Auto' language detection work?

Accepted Answer

A small heuristic checks for language-specific signals — shebangs, <?php, def/import for Python, fn main() for Rust, package main for Go, common shell builtins for bash, and similar patterns — and falls back to plain text if nothing matches confidently. You can always override it from the language dropdown.

Question 3

What image formats can I export?

Accepted Answer

PNG, JPEG, and WebP at 1x, 2x, or 4x resolution, plus SVG as a secondary option. SVG export embeds fonts less reliably outside a browser, so PNG/JPEG/WebP are recommended for sharing.

Question 4

How is this different from carbon.now.sh?

Accepted Answer

More fonts, more Shiki-powered syntax themes, drag-to-resize width, an editable window title, line highlighting, and custom presets you can save locally — with no signup and nothing leaving your browser.

Question 5

Can I save my own presets?

Accepted Answer

Yes — save your current background, theme, font, and padding combination as a named preset. Presets are stored in your browser's localStorage, so they stay on your device and persist between visits.

Question 6

Why did 'Copy image to clipboard' fail?

Accepted Answer

Clipboard image writes require a secure (HTTPS) context and browser support for the Clipboard API's ClipboardItem. Most modern Chromium and Safari browsers support it, but some older or hardened browser configurations block it — use Download instead if copying fails.

Question 7

Does this support bash/shell scripts?

Accepted Answer

Yes — bash/shell is one of the bundled languages, alongside JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, Java, C/C++, and more, all highlighted with Shiki, the same syntax highlighter VS Code uses.
